Winifred Jean Dahlberg, affectionately known as Winnie, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2026. With heavy hearts we say goodbye to a wonderful soul.
Winnie was born on July 16, 1931, in Hardwick, Vermont, the daughter of Clifford Daniels and Roselle Mercier. She grew up on her family’s farm in Craftsbury, Vermont. It was in Craftsbury where Winnie met her beloved husband, Kenneth (Ken) Olav Dahlberg, marrying on June 10, 1950, beginning a loving partnership that would span decades. In the early 1970s, Winnie and Ken moved their family to Monkton, Vermont, and later to the Greater Burlington, Vermont area. No matter where life took her, Craftsbury always held a special place in Winnie’s heart and was forever home to her.
Winnie was a creative, spirited, and talented woman, with a sincere heart and a zest for life. She weaved her way into the hearts of many, not just through her exceptional skills as a quilter, seamstress, baker, cook and genealogy researcher but also through her genuine personality and willingness to share her talents with those around her. WInnie’s love for family, crafting, and traveling remained the pillars of her life, providing her with endless joy and fulfillment.
Winnie retired in 2006 from Cathedral Square in Burlington, Vermont. Her employment journey included preparing school lunches at Craftsbury Academy, baking and preparing meals for Sterling Academy in Craftsbury, and working as an alterations specialist for Magrams Department Store in Burlington. After retirement, Winnie continued to pursue her passions of baking, cooking, genealogy, knitting, quilting, and sewing. WInnie spent countless hours in retirement traveling throughout Vermont doing genealogy research and honing her craft of quilting.
Winnie leaves behind a rich legacy of love, family and cherished memories. She is survived by her loving children, Martha (Dr. Ronald Foran) Dahlberg, Eric (Wendy) Dahlberg, and Judy Dahlberg-Brown; her cherished grandchildren, Ryan Cook, Dr. Elspeth Foran, Christopher Dahlberg, Amanda Kourtz, Daniel Dahlberg, Meghan McFarland, and Rebecca McFarland; and her five beloved great-grandchilden.
Winnie was preceded in death by her parents, her adoring husband, her beloved daughter, Patricia Jean Cook, her brother, Ronald Daniels, her son-in-law, Leslie Brown, and her granddaughter, Lucinda Martin.
Winnie's family is grateful for a lifetime filled with love, laughter, wonderful memories, delicious food, and beautifully crafted creations. Her life was indeed fruitful, honorable, compassionate, and made a difference in the lives of those she touched. Winnie’s spirit lives on in the family she loved, the traditions she passed down, the memories she helped create, and her beautiful creations made with her hands and heart.
A graveside service honoring Winnie and Ken Dahlberg will be held at the Cemetery in East Craftsbury, Vermont, in the spring or summer of 2027. In lieu of flowers, a Tribute Gift in the memory of Winnie Dahlberg may be made to the Vermont Historical Society at vermonthistory.org.
We invite you to share your memories, stories, and photos of Winnie on her memorial page. Her spirit lives on in each memory we keep.
