William D. Callahan, 74, of 6 Bertha Ave, Gardner, MA died Wednesday, April 23 in Heywood Hospital, Gardner after a long battle with Alzheimer's.

He was born on July 24, 1950 in Wurzburg, Germany. Bill was the son of the late Hedwig Callahan and adopted by John Callahan who moved the family to Hazleton, PA in 1955 where Bill grew up. After graduation, he attended Ryder Technical Institute to study electronics and was hired by Digital Equip. Corp in 1970 and later by Wang Laboratories as a Manufacturing Engineer. In 1974 he moved to Gardner. In 1994 he opened B.C Enterprise and followed his passion for model railroading and collecting World War II military models. He graduated from Mt. Wachusett Community College with an associates in Business Administration. He had an enthusiasm for British sports cars.

He leaves his wife of 54 years, Deborah L. Callahan. A son, Matthew D. Callahan of Keene, NH and his partner, Sarah Wirein and her daughters, Clara and Iris Rudy. His granddaughter, Darrion R. Donaghy of Providence RI. A niece, Dina Karabatsos of Charlotte, NC. He also leaves behind his devoted dog, Fletcher who was a constant companion. He is predeceased by a son, William J. Callahan of Everett, MA who died in 2014.

There are no calling hours and internment will be private. There will be a celebration of life at a later date.

The family suggests donations be made to The Alzheimer's Association as a memorial.
