Stephen Z. White

September 2, 1948 — December 5, 2025

Gardner

Stephen Z. White passed away on December 5, 2025 following a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. Stephen was the son of Edward and Mary White of Athol. Steve was born on September 2, 1948. He is survived by his wife Barbara and sons John (Liz) and Matthew (Michelle), his grandson Tyler and wife Kirby along with their sons Everett and Brentlee, his grandson Ian and his wife Christie along with their children Charlotte, Elaine and Henry, granddaughter Kara and great grandchildren Dominic, Xavier.

Stephen loved growing up in Athol and enjoyed many adventures with his friends. He graduated from Athol High School in 1966. He then went on to Worcester Junior College for 5 semesters. He transferred to Fitchburg State College, graduating with a degree in English Literature in 1971.

During his college years, he worked summers at the former Camp Caravan in South Royalston. The camp welcomed children with disabilities for 2 months in the summer. Steve worked in the kitchen as an assistant to the chef. It was here, where he met his wife, Barbara, who was a counselor at the camp.

Stephen and Barbara were married on June 30th, 1973. At the time of Steve's passing, they were married for 52 years.

Steve worked for a short period of time at John Hancock, selling insurance. He then got a job at State Mutual in Worcester. He was a whiz with numbers and figures. He loved his job. He worked his way up to pension administrator.

He was so proud of his two sons and they were all very close. They all cooked at the ORSC. They also loved working on their classic cars and going to many car shows. They could fix, make and create many different things. Their creative minds together were amazing. All three of them also took care of many things at St. Martin’s church (lights, storm windows, fixing locks, changing the timer on the Mary Shrine and more).

Steve loved his family deeply. He loved God, the Blessed Mother and his church.
