GARDNER - Ruth Irene (Hyvarinen) Luoma, 85, died Friday, March 31, 2023, at UMass Medical Center in Worcester.
She leaves two daughters, Diane Funicella and her husband James of Baldwinville, and Pamela Drinkwine-Hall of Jacksonville, AR; one son, Thomas Luoma of Framingham; five grandchildren, Stacy Eady of Gardner, Christopher Downs and his wife Alicia of Gardner, Bryan Gallant and his wife Monica of Pepperell, and Matthew Gallant and his wife Stefanie of Winchendon, Chad Murach of Worcester; eight great-granddaughters; seven great-grandsons; one brother, Thomas Hyvarinen of Fitchburg, and one nephew, Barry Hyvarinen of Fitchburg.
She is predeceased by her first husband, David Drinkwine, by her second husband, Thomas E. Luoma,; one grandson, Daniel Lashomb, one brother, George Hyvarinen, and one sister-in-law, Ann Hyvarien.
Ruth was born in Fitchburg on October 21, 1937, a daughter of the late, Heino and Evelyn (Kangas) Hyvarinen. She went to Ashby Elementary School and graduated from Ashby High School. Ruth worked for the Sentinel and Enterprise Newspaper in Fitchburg as a newspaper inserter for many years and also worked for Johnson's Egg Farm in Westminster.
She loved watching all of the Boston Sports teams, reading books, going on bus trips to Foxwoods, going to band concerts, listening to music, and socializing. She also was an avid walker, she loved to cook and bake, watching TV, movies, and going to Rietta Ranch Flea Market.
Her funeral services and burial will be private at the Woodside Cemetery in Westminster.
