Robert E. Monette

ATHOL - On Thursday December 10, 2020, Robert E. Monette passed away surrounded by his loving family. He was 94. “Bob” was born in Templeton, MA, on February 11, 1926 to Hazel and Edgard Monette. He was one of seven children. When Bob was 18 he joined the United States Army. He served with Company L, 335th Infantry Regiment during WWII. He fought valiantly at the Battle of the Bulge in the winter of 1944-1945. At the conclusion of the war, Bob stayed in France for several months to assist in the Unites States demobilization process. When Bob returned to the United States in May of 1946, he met and married the love of his life, Carolyn, with whom he recently celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary. He built the house on Spring street where they would raise their three children Dale, Scott, and Jane. Bob worked for most of his career at Starrett’s. He spent his retirement doing the things he loved- cutting cordwood in the woods of Royalston, playing golf at Ellinwood Country Club, and spending time with his adoring family. Bob leaves the most amazing legacy of love and kindness to his family. They include his wife, Carolyn Monette of Athol; son Dale Monette and his wife Sharon of New Salem; son Scott Monette and his wife Nancy of Royalston, Daughter Jane Soltesz and her husband John, of Shirley; Grand-daughter Kristen Killay and her husband Kevin of Royalston; Grandson Joel Monette and his wife Rachel of Deerfield; Grand-daughter Jennifer Monette of Haydenville; Grandsons Jake Soltesz and Cody Soltesz of Shirley; brother Norman Monette and his wife Chris of Winchendon; brother Fred Monette and his wife Virginia of Winchendon; five great grand-children and one great, great grand-daughter.
