ORANGE, MA — Richard Walter White, affectionately known as Dick, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2023.

Born on October 15, 1936, in Gardner, MA. Richard was a compassionate, talented, loving, and generous man who dedicated his life to his family and community. His radiant smile and warm heart touched everyone he met, leaving a lasting impression that will be cherished by all who had the privilege to know him. Richard was a talented and hardworking individual, evident in his remarkable career at Athol Credit Union, where he worked for 34 years, rising from a teller to the President before retiring in 1989. His dedication and generosity extended beyond his professional life, as he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, the Orange Airport Commission, and the Exchange Club.

Richard’s love for sports was evident, with a particular passion for tennis and golf. He was also a travel enthusiast, with Prince Edward Island being one of his favorite destinations. A devoted Catholic, Richard served as a Eucharistic Minister and choir member at Our Lady Immaculate Church. He was instrumental in organizing a Food-a-thon for the Athol area and actively served on the church’s finance board. His faith was a guiding light in his life, reminding us of the verse from Matthew 5:16, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

Richard was a loving husband to Margaret Killay-White, with whom he shared a blissful married life since October 10, 1987. He was a proud father to Lori (Laurence) Obue, Denise (Timothy) Aukstikalnis, Theresa White, and Diane Chiasson. He was a doting grandfather to Danielle, Ryan, Melissa, Holly, Gregory, Timothy, Cady, and Noah. Richard also delighted in his 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Malcolm and Alta White, and his sister, Alyce White.

Richard’s life will be remembered and celebrated for the love, joy, and warmth he brought into the world.
