Richard Daniel Ray. Jr.61 of New Salem passed away on May2nd 2025 at U Mass following a massive stroke after years of declining health and most recently lung cancer with his daughter spending his last hours at his side
Rich was born on March 18,1964 in Newton MA, the oldest of three sons, to Richard, Sr and Patricia (Dooley) Ray. He participated as a youth in Scouts, Little League, was an altar boy and later enjoyed motorcycles and water skiing at White Pond in Athol. Rich graduated from Newton North High School in 1982 and worked many jobs in later years for UPS, FedEx ,as a car salesman and lastly for WС Welding and a proud member of the Teamsters Union until he became physically disabled.
He also earned certificates in HVAC and an Auctioneer's License as he loved auctions and collected everything and anything.
Besides his parents, Rich leaves a daughter Jaqui Small and her husband James and three grandchildren. He also leaves a brother Christopher Ray and his wife Cynthia and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many patient., loyal friends.
Rich had a kind heart and usually meant well, but although Rich took many people to their 1st AA meeting, he himself struggled with alcoholism most of his own life.
He is predeceased by all of his grandparents and most recently by his youngest brother Bobby in March of 2023. Rich chose the life he lived so in lieu of any donations or flowers, please say a prayer and offer hope to those still suffering from addiction. The family thanks all those who were helpful and kind to Rich through many trying years including complete strangers. God Bless you all.
There are no services planned and burial will be private.
Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Road, Orange, MA 01364 has been entrusted with Richard's care.
