It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia Ann Brodeur on March 27, 2026, at Nashoba Park Assisted Living in Ayer, Massachusetts, after a battle with cancer. Born on September 8, 1947, in Gardner, Massachusetts, Patricia brought joy, warmth, and compassion into the world for 78 beautiful years.

Maya Angelou once said, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Patricia embodied this sentiment throughout her life. She began her career at New England Telephone and then transitioned to a career of service as a social worker. As a dedicated Social Worker at METP in Gardner for a decade, and then for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, for over twenty years until her retirement in 2008, Patricia spent her entire career providing guidance, support, and care to those in need. Her compassion and empathy were unparalleled, and her impact was profound. Patricia had many dear co-workers who were like a family to her: Debby and her partner Marianne, Carmen, Jerry, Kevin, Merideth, and Jeanne.

Patricia was the cherished daughter of James and Kathleen (Walsh) Middlen. She was a loving wife to her late husband, Donald, who shared a wonderful life together in Hubbardston, Massachusetts, beginning with their marriage in 1969, building their home in 1973, welcoming their daughter Stephanie in 1975, and ending with his untimely death in 2007. When Stephanie left for college in 1993, Patricia attended Mt. Wachusett Community College in Gardner on nights and weekends, earning her degree. In 2008, Patricia moved to Ayer, Massachusetts, to live with her daughter, her husband Rory, and their newborn son Aidan. She spent many happy years caring for Aidan while his parents worked, attending playgroups and making friends with other grandparents in town, including Charlene, Gail, and Linda. Patricia also enjoyed traveling and made visits to relatives in Texas, Ohio, and Ireland, and friends in North Carolina and Cape Cod. In 2014, Patricia welcomed her second grandson, Benedict, into the family.

Patricia was preceded in death by her beloved cousin, Theresa Dembek, her dear sister-in-law, Christine Scott, and her beloved brother-in-law, Alden Adams. Patricia’s legacy will continue to live on through the love and memories of her family and all those fortunate enough to have known her.

Patricia's life was characterized by her unwavering dedication to service, her boundless love for her family, and her warm, welcoming spirit. Her light will continue to shine brightly in our hearts and minds, illuminating our path forward with the lessons of love, compassion, and selflessness she taught us. Many whom she spent time with in her last few years, including the wonderful and caring staff at Nashoba Park Assisted Living, the exceptional nurses of Deaconess Abundant Life Services, and the caring staff of Beacon Hospice, all exemplified the caring and compassion Patricia provided to many throughout her career.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you to kindly make a contribution in Patricia's memory to the Sterling Animal Shelter, 17 Laurelwood Road, Sterling, Massachusetts, 01564. Patricia loved animals, especially her cockapoo Jake, who passed in 2017, and often donated to the shelter in his name.

A calling hour will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026, from 9:00 - 10:00 am, in the Mack Family Funeral Homes, Gardner - Chapel, 105 Central Street, Gardner, MA. Followed by a funeral service in the funeral home at 10:00 am. Her burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, West Street, Gardner, MA 01440.
