Nancy Helen Carroll-Williams, 65, of Athol, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, following complications from a chronic illness.
Born in Gardner, Massachusetts, on July 24, 1960, Nancy was the daughter of William Edward Carroll Jr. and Barbara Carroll-Neimi. She was raised in Gardner and later moved to Athol, where she built a life and started a family with her husband of 29 years, Keith Williams.
Nancy was a natural host who truly shone at social gatherings. She was always at her best when surrounded by the people she loved—and, of course, with a Diet Coke in hand. This innate warmth and social grace beautifully translated into her career, where she served as the Director of Admissions for multiple healthcare and assisted living facilities. It was a role she was born to play, allowing her to utilize her caring spirit to welcome new patients and gently help them settle into their new surroundings.
Family was everything to Nancy. A devoted mother, sister, and aunt, she followed the lives of her loved ones closely, never missing a detail and constantly asking for updated photos. Her and Keith’s love also extended far beyond their immediate family; they provided a loving home for Brian Bruso, maintained a deep, lifelong bond with their former nanny, Jacqueline Germain-Szlyk, and opened their doors to numerous foreign exchange students over the years. Nancy welcomed absolutely everyone who crossed her threshold, ensuring that everyone—especially her children's friends—felt like they were part of the family.
Those who knew Nancy best will remember her as an incredibly generous and caring soul, but also as someone who was fiercely stubborn. It was that exact stubbornness and refusal to quit that sustained her through her long battle with chronic illness. While she will be sorely missed, her family takes comfort in knowing she is finally at peace and no longer suffering in pain.
Nancy is survived by her loving husband, Keith Williams; her daughter, Meghan Williams and her husband Eric Chouinard; her mother, Barbara Carroll-Niemi; her sister Joyce and her husband James Fletcher; her sister Lynn Carroll; her brother James Carroll and his wife Karen, along with many nieces and nephews.
Nancy was predeceased by her father, William Edward Carroll Jr.; her beloved son, Jeffrey Williams; her brother, William Carroll; and her nephew, Kevin Fletcher.
Services will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 11 AM in the Mack Family Funeral Home, Athol-Orange Chapel, 110 New Athol Road, Orange. Burial will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
