Maurice C. Sawyer

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Maurice “Moe” Sawyer, who passed unexpectedly on Monday May 11, 2026.

Moe was born on April 7, 1956 in Tracadie, New Brunswick to Adelin and Margaret Sawyer. They moved to Gardner, MA in 1960 with his three siblings, Myrna, Arthur and Tom. Moe graduated from Monty Tech in 1974 and got married to his high-school sweat heart Cheryl in 1977. Together they welcomed two sons, Joshua and Justin Sawyer and made a life with each other that was full of loving memories, laughs and good times for 49 years.

Moe was a hard working, dedicated master scheduler with a great work ethic. A trait passed down to his sons. He worked in the fabrication and machining field for 40 years, recently retiring.

Moe was a loving father, grandfather and husband. Moe loved the Patriots, Golf, and movies (new and old). He enjoyed spending time with his four grandchildren showering them with love and attention. Moe was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren. Moe was the life of any gathering. His infectious laugh and sense of humor is what endeared him to his friends and family.

He is survived by his wife Cheryl Sawyer (Joseph) of Athol, MA; his sons Joshua Sawyer of Middlebury, CT and Justin Sawyer of Southbury, CT. His Daughter-in-laws Megan Edson-Sawyer and Annie Sawyer. His grandchildren Connor, Allison, Taylor and Landon. Moe has three siblings, sister Myrna Brouillet of Gardner, MA and brothers; Arthur Sawyer and Tommy Sawyer of New Brunswick Canada.

Calling Hours will be held on Monday, May 18, 2026 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Mack Funeral Homes, Athol-Orange Chapel, 110 New Athol Rd, Orange, MA. 

A celebration of life will follow on Saturday May 23, 2026 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the King Philip Restaurant located at 35 State Rd. Phillipston, MA.
