It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved Mary Elisabeth Atwell, who left us on November 23, 2023. Born on July 13, 1933, in Syracuse, NY, Mary was a beacon of compassion, dedication, and love. Her humble spirit touched everyone she met, and her soothing presence was a source of comfort to many.

Mary's life was a symphony of service, faith, and family. Her career as an LPN and later in office administration was marked by the same dedication and care that she brought to every aspect of her life.  Mary's talents extended well beyond her professional life as she found great joy in playing the piano, organ, and accordion. She also had a talent for poem writing. An avid walker, Mary delighted in the simple pleasures of life. She was an active member of her church, lifting spirits with her melodic voice in the choir and extending her care to those in need through her work as a hospital chaplain and in prison ministries.

Mary's life was a testament to her faith and her love for her family. Her sweetness and kindness have deeply touched her husband, Richard Atwell; her children, Wendy Hall, Linda Boss, Gary Tessier, David Tessier, and Debbie Messenger; her eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Elisabeth Gilchrist, and her brother, Bruce Gilchrist.

Mary's life was a beautiful journey filled with love, faith, and service. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she has touched. We invite you to share your favorite memories of Mary and upload pictures to the memorial page to celebrate her life and the love she shared.
