Karen Louise (Sundnas) Ouellette, a compassionate and resilient soul, passed away on May 15, 2026. Born in Gardner, MA, on August 17, 1949, Karen dedicated a significant part of her life to serving her community as a social worker at the local youth center. She was a beacon of hope, always empathetic and understanding, touching countless lives with her kindness and unwavering dedication.
Karen was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Fagundes, son-in-law Leandro Fagundes, sister Donna Melatti, brother-in-law Kippy Melatti, her significant other, Martin Jalbert, and her cherished granddaughters, Sophia, Julia, and Helena Fagundes. She was predeceased by her parents, Eskimo and Margaret Sundnas, sister Marcia Jalbert, niece Melissa Jalbert, and her husband Emile Ouellette.
Karen had a deep love for literature and the beach, which were her sanctuaries of peace and joy. She could often be found with a book in one hand and the soft melodies of her favorite songs echoing in the background. Her summers were spent basking in the warmth of the Maine sun, surrounded by her family and close friends. As we remember Karen, we are reminded of the verse from Proverbs 31:25, "She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future." Her memory will forever be a testament to her resilience and the love she shared with all who knew her.
Karen worked for several years at the Youth Center. After leaving the Youth Center, she worked for Simplex/Tyco in Westminster. Her next adventure was as a crossing guard for the Gardner Public Schools before she retired.
In memory of Karen, we invite you to share your memories and upload photos to her memorial page.
