Gardner-John Edward Kelley, 88, died Friday, March 3, 2023, at Quabbin Valley Nursing Home in Athol after an illness. 

 

He leaves his wife Dorothy Frances (Rivers) Kelley; two sons, John R. Kelley and his wife Cynthia of Templeton, and Jeffrey J. Kelley of Athol; one step-granddaughter, Katie Medina and her husband Angel and one step-grandson, James Fucile; two step-great-grandchildren Jayden Medina and Isaiah Medina; a special nephew, Peter Rivers and his wife Laurie; and several other nieces and nephews. 

 

John was born in Gardner on March 15, 1934, a son of the late Edward and Christine (Gustafson) Kelley.

 

He worked as a mason for Gordon Sanders and for the City of Gardner as the Building Inspector for many years. 

 

He was the oldest and longest member of the Gardner Elks Club and was well known for the items he sold in his front yard. 

 

The family would like to thank the nurses, CNA’s and all the staff from Quabbin Valley for their excellent care of their Father. We would also like to thank Walter Taylor from Mack Funeral Home for his help.

 

Funeral services and burial will be private in Wildwood Cemetery, Gardner, MA.
