James (Jim) Frederick Conroy Sr, 80, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026, following a period of declining health.
Born on July 3, 1945, in Everett, Mass, to Rita A. (O’Leary) Dean and Thomas Conroy, Jim was a beacon of strength, resilience, and love for his family, friends, and community.
Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife, Diane L. (Toppi) Conroy, and his cherished son,
James F. Conroy Jr. He is survived by his daughter, Darlene L. Vautour, and her partner, Paul G. Perusse Jr. His legacy will continue to live on through his granddaughters, Kaitlin E. Vautour, Kimberly A. Vautour, and her partner Allison S. Crispin, Nicole M. Santana and her husband Daniel L. Santana, and his great-granddaughters Callie A. Vautour and Paislee S. Vautour. Jim also leaves behind his sister, Margaret A. Rogers, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
A proud Marine Corps Veteran, Jim dedicated his life to serving his country and community, and his bravery and commitment were evident throughout. His tenacity carried over into his professional life as a CNC machinist for the former Data General Corporation, contributing to the growth and success of the company, where he demonstrated his meticulous attention to detail and relentless work ethic.
Jim was a member of the Hubbardston Fire Department and a Direct Care Provider for the Templeton Developmental Center, where he provided care and support for those in need. Jim was a man of many passions and hobbies, but above all else, he cherished the time spent with his family. His love for them was endless, and he could often be found sharing stories, laughter, and wisdom with those he held dear.
He was a lifelong learner, always interested in expanding his knowledge and understanding of the world around him. Jim’s strength, resilience, and unwavering commitment to his family are traits that will continue to live on through his loved ones. His lively spirit and unwavering dedication to his family will never be forgotten. Jim’s life was a testament to the strength of the human spirit, the depth of human compassion, and the boundless capacity for love.
Jim will be remembered not only for his accomplishments but more importantly for the love he shared, the lives he touched, and the examples he set. His memory will continue to serve as a guide for his family and all who knew him. In the words of Jim, “Keep your head up high and your heart full of love.”Rest in peace, James F. A graveside service for Jim will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 11 am in Evergreen Cemetery, Hubbardston.
In lieu of flowers, Jim's family requests you make a contribution in Jim’s name to the Veterans Outreach of Gardner, the Alzheimer's Association, the Dementia Society, the Hubbardston Fire Department, or a Charity of your choice.
Mack Family Funeral Home, Gardner Chapel, 105 Central St., Gardner, is directing arrangements.
