Jack Edward Munnis

Jack Edward Munnis, 68, of Ashburnham, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, January 19, 2026.

Jack was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, on August 31, 1957. He was the son of Jack E. and Rita I. (Young) Munnis and raised in Billerica, where he began his military journey in the high school ROTC program.

He is survived by his beloved wife of forty years, Sandra J. (Richardson) Munnis; his son, Joshua E. Munnis, and daughter, Shaylyn L. Munnis. Seven sisters, Alida E. Carnevale and her husband Robert, Cheryl A. Mitis-Hamelin, Brenda M. Kilbride and her husband Thomas, Annette D. Baker, Bonnie J. Hadley, Theresa L. Munnis, and Collette S. Hathaway; his brothers, Peter W. Munnis and Michael J. Lamothe; many nieces and nephews; and his two beloved dogs, Scout and Jozee. He was predeceased by his father, Jack E. Munnis (April, 2016); his mother, Rita I. Munnis (October, 2010); and his brother, Phillip J. Munnis (March, 1959).

Jack was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He served as a member of the Marine Corps Honor Guard for over twenty years, participating in numerous military and memorial services. Jack was deeply involved in the Ashburnham community. He served as the Adjutant of the Thomas P. Sweeney American Legion Post 142. For many years, he volunteered at their monthly fish fries and other community events. He took great pride in being a member of the American Legion Riders, as well as dedicated thirty-two years to the Postal Service. He was also a member of the Bresnahan Center, collected and distributed Toys for Tots, served as a Scout leader for Troop 18, and helped coach his children’s sports teams. Jack had a rare gift for connecting with people. He could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere, and his ability to make others laugh and not take themselves too seriously was one of his greatest gifts. Above all else, he immersed himself in the treasures of love and time spent with family and friends.

He loved traveling with his family — camping, hunting, fishing, kayaking, and going on cruises. He cherished family parties and gatherings, and experienced true freedom while riding his motorcycle. Sunrises with his family reflected Jack’s true essence - gratitude, presence, peace, and love.

Through every hardship, Jack’s strength and perseverance were guided by his unconditional love. Jack touched countless lives with his light and laughter, which will forever live on in all who were blessed to know him.
