Impi E. Sylvester, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, departed on her final journey on January 25, 2026. Born in Gardner, MA, on December 31, 1932, Impi's journey through life was a testament to resilience, determination, and the power of a good book.
Impi's story began in the heart of Gardner, where she grew up and graduated from Gardner High School. Her dedication to education led her to serve as a secretary at the Gardner Superintendent of Schools for 24 years and also at the Lab at Heywood Hospital for eight years. Impi's commitment to her work was only surpassed by her devotion to her faith and her community. She was a longtime active member of the Chestnut Street Methodist Church in Gardner and a member of the AARP. Yet, amidst her busy schedule, she always found the time for her true passion - reading. Impi was an avid reader, always seen with a book in her hand, ready to embark on a new adventure.
Impi's love for her family was the cornerstone of her life. She is survived by her son, David Sylvester; her daughter, Jane Lyons; her granddaughter, Nichole Lyons; her great-grandchild, Ryley Vanderlinden; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Impi was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Amanda Korhonen; her brothers, Martti and Pentti Korhonen; her sister, Martha Jokimaki; and her son, George Sylvester.
