Lancaster...Hollis H. Conklin Sr. 77 of 2517 Main Street Lancaster, MA died Sunday July 9, 2006 in River Terrace Health Care Lancaster, MA after an illness. He was born July 22, 1928 in Mahway, New Jersey the son of the late John E. and Malvina (Mann) Conklin and lived in New Jersey until coming to Leominster, MA many years ago. He leaves (4) sons; Hollis H. Conklin Jr. of Clinton, MA , Anthony Conklin of Lancaster, MA, John Hardy and Robery Hardy both of Pepperell, MA. He leaves (2) daughters; Melvina Hutchins of Leominster, MA and Anita Bezdegian of Paxton, MA. (2) brothers; Paul Conklin of Washingtonville, New York and Kenneth Conklin of Chester, New York. (1) sister, Iona DeGroat of Raleigh, North Carolina (15) grandchildren (27) great-grandchildren Nephews and nieces His wife of (53) years, Mae Emma (Salafia) Conklin died May 18, 2005. A son Joseph Hardy and a sister Phyllis Conklin predeceased him. Mr. Conklin was a US Army veteran of World War 2 and the Korean Conflict. He entered the service June 26, 1946 and was discharged August 2, 1952 attaining the rank of SFC. He served in Co C 516th ABN Infantry Regiment, and the 101st Airborne Division. He received the World War 2 Victory Medal, Army Occupation Medal, Korean Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, Army Occupation Medal (Germany),United Nations Service Medal. Mr. Conklin was employed for many years as a supervisor at Borden Chemical Corp. in Leominster, MA retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Hudson, MA, and the Village Church in South Lancaster, MA, American Legion Post 2007 in Lancaster, MA, the Pepperell MA VFW, Lancaster Senior Citizens Center and the Leominster Sportsmans Club. Mr. Conklin raised poultry entering into local fairs where he received many prizes and ribbons.He also enjoyed hunting, baseball, fishing and watching old World War 2 movies. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 13th at 10am in the Village Church, 75 Sawyer Street, South Lancaster, MA from the M.A. Simard and Son Funeral Home, 14 Walker Street Leominster, MA. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Leos Cemetery, Leominster MA. Calling hours in the funeral home are Wednesday evening, July 12th are from 4pm.-7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen Street Framingham, MA 01701 or to the National Kidney Foundation, 11 Vanderbilt Ave. suite 105 Norwoord, MA 02062 and may be left at the funeral home. $(document).ready(function(){ });
