Her life was a testament to the strength of the human spirit, her 86-year journey was filled with unyielding love, selfless service, and an enduring zest for life. Hannelore was a beacon of light in every life she touched and will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering dedication to the well-being of others.
In her professional life, Hannelore was a meticulous bookkeeper whose diligent work ethic was reflected in her tenure at Catholic Charities. She retired from there, leaving a legacy of integrity and diligence. But her life outside work truly defined her. Hannelore loved nature, often working outdoors, knitting together the threads of life and nature. Her nimble fingers crafted not only clothes but also lasting memories for those around her. Her love for animals was profound, often serving as a silent language between her and her furry friends. As an active woman, her vibrant spirit encapsulated her German roots and her love for her adopted hometown, Orange, Massachusetts.
Hannelore was the surviving spouse of Army Sgt Cedric Smart, who died while serving in Vietnam. She is survived by her loving daughter, Desiree Smart. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fritz and Magdelina Stadler.
Her life was a woven tapestry of love and strength, a testament to the beautiful soul she was. Her strength was evident in her smile and her ability to make everyone around her feel loved and cherished.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, 17th of June, 2026, at 10:00 am, at Mack Family Funeral Homes, Athol-Orange Chapel, 110 New Athol Rd., Orange, MA.
The Funeral service will follow at 11:00 am at the same venue. Hannelore will be laid to rest at the Tully Cemetery, Orange, MA at 12:00 am.
