George A. Di Saia, born in Warwick, Rhode Island, on May 29, 1939, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2025, in Fort Pierce, Florida, at the age of 86.
A proud veteran of the United States Navy, George went on to dedicate many years of service as a building official in several towns throughout central Massachusetts, later continuing his work in Port St. Lucie, Florida. His strong work ethic and commitment to public service left a lasting impression on the communities he served.
Beyond his career, George had a real passion for cars, especially hot rods. He loved fixing them up, going to car shows, and being part of North County Street Rods. He had a bit of a wild side and loved anything with a loud engine and a little extra horsepower. It wasn’t just a hobby for him, it was something that brought him joy, pride, and lifelong friendships.
He also deeply enjoyed life in his retirement community and the many friends he made while living there. Always social and good-humored, he was well-known and loved. In his downtime, he liked watching boxing and NASCAR races, and could often be seen cruising in his beloved purple 1930s roadster-style golf cart, a vehicle that perfectly reflected his adventurous spirit and his love of hot rods.
George is survived by his loving daughter Kelly Shamgochian, his devoted son-in-law, Thomas Shamgochian, and his cherished granddaughter, Hannah Shamgochian. He is also survived by his son, David Di Saia (Denise), and daughters, Charlina McGee (David), Candice Di Saia, and Jaymie Di Saia, as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Frances Di Saia.
George will be remembered as a devoted father and grandfather, a hardworking man, a true car guy, and someone who lived with heart, faith, and a sense of humor. He’ll be missed deeply by his family, friends, and everyone lucky enough to have known him.
