George F Carey

ATHOL - George F. "Buddy" Carey, 84, died Thursday, December 1, 2022, at St Vincent's Hospital in Bridgeport, CT.

He was born in Gardner on October 24, 1938, the son of the late George A. Carey and Edith (Bridgman) Carey.

George grew up in Orange and graduated from Greenfield Technical. His first job was working as a Parts Manager for Cormier's Garage in Orange. He went on to work at the L.S. Starrett Company for over 42 years.

Buddy raced Go-Karts for many years and enjoyed snowmobiling.  He could fix anything and was a craftsman who enjoyed woodworking.  He was a "Ford Guy" and that was not negotiable, he was also an avid fan of all of the Boston sports teams.  He coached the American Legion Little League team for several years.  

George was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Claire A. (Guignard) Carey who passed in 2019.

He leaves two sons, Daniel and his wife Lisa of Athol, Dennis, and his fiancé Norma Calvi of Orange; one daughter, Danielle Stringer and her companion David Clarkson of Worcester; four grandchildren: Chelsea, Julia, Bailey, and Brandon; one sister, Mary Morin and her husband Joe of The Villages, FL and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, December 7, 2022, from  4:00 PM to  7:00 PM at the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Road, Orange.

Burial in Silver Lake Cemetery will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations in George's memory be made to the Athol Boosters Association c/o Marty Miarecki, 389 Cobb Rd., Athol, MA 01331.
