George “Buddy” Young, 82, passed away at his home after an illness with his son, Steve at his side.
Buddy was predeceased by his loving wife Karen (Pera) Young who passed away in 2011, his brother Bob “Digger” Young and his sister-in-law Gail Young.
Buddy leaves his son, Steve Young along with several generations of nieces and nephews. Buddy also leaves many near and dear friends and neighbors.
George was born at home on Cushing Street, Ashburnham. He was the son of George and Ruth Young.
Buddy was an owner-operator for Dallas Mavis Forwarding Company for over 30 years. Buddy was the proud owner of a 1978 Peterbilt which he bought new and drove for over 3,000,000 miles. Buddy enjoyed to going to truck shows with the same truck until the time of his passing.
The trip he and Karen took for their 25th anniversary to Hawaii was one of his favorite memories that he talked about often.
Buddy was a master mechanic that could fix anything that was “unfixable”. Buddy was the “go-to” guy for all his friends and neighbors and even for those who heard of his talent. Buddy was a person who helped anyone in need.
Buddy always had a hot pot of coffee ready along with many “stories” for any visitor that may drop by. Buddy’s famous last words were “My Way or (you fill in the rest)“. Buddy had eaten more hamburgers than McDonald’s has served. Buddy always enjoyed a cold Coke.
Buddy was a member of Hancock VFA, Ashburnham, life member of New England States Veteran Fireman’s League, associated with Ould Newbury Associates, Newbury, MA, T.W. Lane, Mystic, CT and a member of the American Truck Historical Society.
He attended countless antique fireman’s musters with the Hancock and many truck shows with his Peterbilt.
Steve would like to sincerely thank all those who were there for his Dad when they were needed most.
All services will be private. Buddy will be buried along with his wife Karen at a later date.
