Florence I. (Miller) Hutchinson

Florence I. Hutchinson Athol – Florence Ida (Miller) Hutchinson, 95, of 171 South Royalston Road, died Thursday, November 27, 2014 at the Athol Hospital after a brief illness.      Florence was born in Worcester, MA, September 28, 1919, the daughter of Hulda and Olie Nelson.  She grew up in Worcester where she attended schools and Atlantic Union College in South Lancaster, MA.  She lived in Athol for many years, and worked at Quabbin Valley Healthcare during the 1980’s. During her time in Athol she was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.      She and her husband and family also lived in Richfield Springs, NY where Florence was a member of the local Grange.   They also lived in North Brookfield, MA where she worked at Kleven Shoe Company.  In 1987 she and her husband retired to Sarasota, FL where Florence continued to live until 2010.  Florence was an active member of her community in Sarasota enjoying  dance classes, pool exercise and playing horseshoes.  She traveled extensively in the USA after her retirement and also visited many famous world sites while traveling to several continents such as South America, Central America, Africa and Asia.        Her husband of 49 years, Eugene F. Hutchinson died in Sarasota 1990.  She was the beloved Mother of seven children, three daughters, Casandra Crockett and her late husband Mark of Carlisle, PA, Valorie Stackpole and her husband Tom of North Port, FL, and Kathy Mallet and her husband Aron of Athol; four sons, Greg Hutchinson and his wife Sue of Oakham, Fred Hutchinson and his partner, Lori Warner of Athol and Sarasota, FL and Mike Hutchinson and his wife Patty of Athol.   She was a beloved grandmother of 23 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.  She also leaves three half siblings, Dick Mitchell and his wife Sue of Contoocook, NH, Coral Carey and her husband Dave of Salem, OR, and Sandra Johnson of Picyune, MS.  Besides her husband Florence was predeceased by a son Kevin in 1979 and a great-granddaughter, Tricia in 2007.       A service will be held at a date and time to be announced.  Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main Street, Athol is directing arrangements.  For further information or to share a memory with the family go to: www.higginsoconnorfuneralhome.com.     $(document).ready(function(){ });
