It is a mix of sorrow and celebration that we share the passing of our vibrant matriarch Epifania Rivera, affectionately known as Fanny, Mama, and Mama Coco. Born on February 6, 1948, in Toa Alta, Puerto Rico, Epifania was a woman whose charisma was as captivating as her spirit was strong, making every moment count. As Maya Angelou once said, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel," and this couldn't be truer for Epifania. Her resilient heart left a strong impression on everyone she encountered. As her family, we, as a whole, are blessed to share her story.
Epifania was never married, yet was never alone. She built a life full of love and warmth surrounded by her family and friends. Her adventurous spirit led her from Puerto Rico to New York, and finally to Fitchburg and Gardner, Massachusetts. In each place, Fanny made friends, her energy, a magnet that drew in those around her like a beacon and as many have expressed it left a mark on their hearts and souls. Fanny carried zest for life and it was a testament of a beautiful fusion of culture, love and resilience. Her spirited personality coupled with her unique brand of love, made her a beloved figure.
Professionally, Epifania found joy in fieldwork, gardening and traveling to flea market events and creating a splash with her unique creations. Yet, it was in the kitchen that her passion truly shone. She used her cooking to infuse her home with laughter, love and mouth-watering aromas of her expertly crafted meals. It was not just about her love for cooking delicious food but it was her unique way of communicating her affection. Epifania’s nourishing meals served as a testament of love for family and friends.
Epifania was the epitome of joy and fun. She lived a fulfilling life, full of music and dancing. Gifted with the ability to create joy, Fanny left great memories as the life of the party. Fanny embraced life’s journey with an infectious enthusiasm and passion that was captivating. Her heart was full of love for her family, her children Vejen Bruno, Wanda Ivette Rivera, Juan Mojica, and Wanda Vasquez. Even with her all the love she had for her children, her most cherished role in life was her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother. Her love for her grandchildren knew no bounds but she devotedly and unrestrainedly loved her great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Nicanor and Bernanda Rivera. Survived by her remaining older siblings, her children, numerous grandchildren and great-children. Epifania's spirited approach to life was contagious. She was a beacon of light to those around her, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she touched. As the world bids farewell to this adventurous soul, as her family, we ask that she is not remembered in sadness, but with gratitude for having known such an extraordinary woman and for the beautiful memories that she left us.
