Auburn

Eleanor (Ellie) Thomson, age 94, passed away on November 7, 2026, at Brookdale Eddy Pond, Auburn, Massachusetts. Eleanor was born in Athol, Massachusetts, on September 26, 1932, daughter of Lithuanian immigrants George Anthony Wesockes and Elizabeth Amelia Barkauskaité. The youngest of 11 children, Eleanor is predeceased by five brothers, Charles Wesockes, Anthony (Mickey) Wesockes, George Wesockes, John Wesockes, Francis (Frank) West, and 5 sisters, Amelia (Millie) Walsh, Antena (Tena) Kania, Frances (Frannie) Masellis, Pauline Rodski, and Anna Storm.

Ellie grew up in Athol and met her life partner and loving husband, Gordon Allen Thomson, of 54 years, until the time of his passing in 2006. Shortly after their marriage, Ellie moved to Mississippi, where Gordon was stationed with the U. S. Air Force. While Gordon served his tour of duty in Korea, Ellie’s courage, strength, and purpose back home set the foundation for the beautiful life they would have together. Ellie and Gordon (who became Treasurer and Secretary at the L. S. Starrett Company) moved back to Athol where they raised four children. Ellie considered it a blessing to be a stay-at-home mom. When the children were grown, she found renewed purpose entering the workforce at The Whistler Corporation in Fitchburg and then at TRW Automotive in Westminster, where she received numerous commendations for stellar work performance until her retirement in 1997.

Always busy being creative, Ellie was an avid gardener and talented at sewing, knitting, and crocheting. While she considered her crafty pursuits hobbies, her creations were in demand as donations at local hospitals and other charitable organizations and groups where she rarely took credit. Those of us in possession of one of her afghan throws, framed needlepoint art, braided rugs (made of wool strips she cut from skirts and suits she searched thrift stores for), or intricate and detailed doll clothes (made with leftover scraps from dresses and other clothes she made) will cherish her memory.

Eleanor is predeceased by one of her sons, Gregory John Thomson (1962-2024), and survived by daughter Evelyn (Evie) Thomson and husband Houston (Hu) Odom Jr. of Virginia Beach, Virginia, sons Steven Thomson and wife Bonny of Athol, and Michael Thomson of Chesapeake, Virginia, and daughter-in-law Maria Melendez Thomson of Willington, Connecticut.

Funeral services and burial will be private.
