Eileen M. Bosworth

August 7, 1931 — October 21, 2022

Athol

Eileen M. (Mallette) Bosworth, 91, of New Sherborn Road in Athol, went to be with her Lord and Savior Friday, October 21, 2022, at Hartford Hospital where she had been taken following a brief illness.

Eileen was born August 7, 1931 in Athol, Massachusetts, the daughter of Herbert Henry Mallette and Marion (Hachey) Mallette.

She lived in Athol all of her life and attended Athol schools.

On December 30, 1950, Eileen was married to her sweetheart Richard W. Bosworth, (Dick) and they resided in Athol all 63 years of their marriage, together raising their six children.

Eileen worked for J. F. McElwain Shoe Company, Ray's Plastics in Winchendon, The Athol Sewing Factory, N. D. Cass Company, and until her retirement, she worked 23 years for the L. S. Starrett Company. She also partnered with her husband for 35 years in Dick's Bike Shop, where the couple were well-known for their dedication to helping their customers find "wheel happiness."

A devout Christian and trusting follower of Jesus Christ, Eileen was known for her generosity and desire to help others, her quick sense of humor and infectious laughter, her humble disposition, her loyal affection and dedication to her family, and her deep faith and integrity. She was an excellent cook, a skilled seamstress and crochet expert who made clothing for her children, and one of her greatest joys was creating and tending her magnificent flower gardens on New Sherborn Road. Many times people would drive by to see the beauty she had crafted with her flowers. Eileen and Dick made special homemade Hires Root Beer for their children, who eagerly awaited each new batch. Gifted in artistic endeavors, Eileen shared a love of art and creating with each of her children, encouraging artistic gifts in each of them that have developed and lasted all of their lives.

She and Dick enjoyed vacationing together in Boothbay Harbor, Maine for 26 years.
Always staying at Ship Ahoy Motel, they established many longtime friendships. Though her extended family was large, Eileen always remembered each member with cards, letters and gifts, and she also corresponded routinely from childhood with a pen pal she finally met in person on a trip to Prince Edward Island.

Eileen found great joy in reading, faithfully read her Bible and prayed for others, loved spending time with family members, and she was devoted to Moore's Corner Church of Leverett, and her many friends there.

Eileen is survived by her six children: Scott Bosworth (Kathy) of Sheridan Wyoming, Mark Bosworth (Wendy) of Athol, Kurt Bosworth of Antrim, New Hampshire, Lisa Wood of Athol, Chris Held (John) of Athol, Kelly Bunker of Athol, and 15 grandchildren: Jennifer Brailey, Bethany, Devan and Emily Bosworth, Heidi Morris, Rosalie Carney, Nathaniel and Gaelan Bosworth, Marie and Alan Wickland, Aaron, Levi and Isaac Held, Larry and Jamie Bunker, and eleven great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Richard in 2014, parents Herbert and Marion, siblings Alvin, Eugene, Beverly, Valerie and Richard, daughter-in-law Heather Bosworth, and granddaughter Jillian Bosworth.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday Nov. 5th at 11:00AM at the Moore's Corner Church, Church Hill Rd. in Leverett MA with Pastor Mike Grant officiating. A time of refreshment and fellowship will follow downstairs after the service.
