Doris Rose Draleaus, 94, of Gardner, MA, died after being stricken ill at home.
Born In Lunenburg, MA on December 22, 1929, she was the daughter of Hormisdas and Rose Legros. She attended school in Lunenburg, and was an avid swimmer, winning medals for her swims at Whalom Lake. She was a long time member of St. Francis of Assisi, active in parish and school activities, from cheerleading coach to Scout leader. After the passing of her husband, she purchased a home in Westminster MA, where she tended 40 blueberry bushes, other fruit trees, and flowers, enjoying nature - all in her very own backyard.
Doris could be seen volunteering and participating in small town life, known for her baking, particularly for the Westminster Police and Fire departments. Cribbage and Bingo were her outlets, and though she had many friends wherever she went, the ones at the Westminster Senior Center were special to her. She loved to entertain, hosting many back yard gatherings, as her best times were spent with family and friends.
Doris is survived by her son Gary of Punta Gorda, FL, son Kenneth and his wife Vicki of Marlboro, VT, her daughter Pamela Sheldon of Leominster, MA, seven grandchildren: Dean Draleaus of Port St. Lucie, FL, Casey Draleaus and her fiancé Bill Janovsky of Whitingham VT, David Draleaus and his wife Rose of Weare, NH, Andrew Draleaus and his fiancé Jenny Witzman of Concord, MA, Adam Sheldon of Leominster, MA, Kyle Sheldon and his fiancé Meghan Prymak of Westminster, MA, Blake Sheldon and his wife Samantha of Temecula, CA, and 13 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Dianne Legros of Lunenburg, MA, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Frederick A. Draleaus who died in 1997 and her daughter-in-law Carol Draleaus (Angelico), wife of Gary, who passed in 2022.
Calling hours will be held from 4 pm to 6 pm on May 1, 2024 at Mack Family Funeral Home, 105 Central Street, Gardner, MA. Then come join us immediately following as we celebrate May Day, a special day to Doris, at VFW Post 739, 3 Eaton Street, Westminster MA.
Burial will be private.
