Donald Niemela, born on February 1, 1942, in Gardner, Massachusetts, passed away on October 29, 2025. He was a beloved member of the Templeton community, where he resided for the majority of his life. A proud graduate of Gardner High School's class of 1960, Donald furthered his education at Bentley College of Accounting, a testament to his dedication and tenacity.
For many years, Donald was an esteemed salesman at the New England Woodenware Corp., serving the company faithfully from 1970 until his retirement in 2017. Donald served in the US Army during Vietnam as a SP4. He was widely respected for his professionalism and commitment to his work. Despite his career achievements, Donald's passions extended beyond his professional life. He was a devoted New England sports fan, often seen cheering for his favorite teams. His love for his community was also evident in his active participation in various clubs and societies. Donald was a dedicated member of the B.P.O.E. 1426, American Legion Post 129, and the VFW Post 905.
Don was quick witted with a great sense of humor and always enjoyed a good joke. He was charismatic ,smart and very caring. He was a quiet man and only spoke when he felt it was important and a good listener. He loved socializing with his friends at many of his favorite places. Very routine. The day before he left us he whispered a favorite joke and on his last day the last thing he ate was a chocolate chip cookie. That was all for he had a sweet tooth. Don and his friend made numerous calls daily which a lot was sports. It was a special bond. Well Don we all love you and will celebrate you.
Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Jerilyn C. Niemela, father, Waino Niemela, mother, Dorothy Niemela, and his brother, Philip Niemela. Each contributed significantly to the man Donald became, and their memory remained close to his heart. Donald's wisdom, compassion, and indomitable spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
We invite those who knew Donald to share their memories and upload photos to his memorial page. Your contributions will help to create a rich tapestry of Donald's life, celebrating his achievements, his love for his community, and his enduring spirit.
