Charles Tutlis

November 30, 1941 — September 3, 2025

Baldwinville

Charles Tutlis passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Charles, known to his family and friends as Chuck, was born on November 30, 1941, and grew up in Gardner on Pine Street. He had fond memories of his family, biking, sledding, and spending time at his uncle Tovio’s house. He often recalled these times spent here and always told us about how much he loved spending time at his grandparents' farm in Rumford, Maine.

He joined the United States Army in 1964 and actively served in Vietnam until his return home in 1966. After his return, he began working at the Rutland State Hospital, where he met his wife, Carolyn Hale of Baldwinville. They enjoyed 40 years of marriage together. He always loved being outdoors, trips to the White Mountains, and spending time with his family.

He worked for the Narragansett Regional School District until his retirement, spending his time with his wife. After her passing, he spent many fall days camping in the White Mountains with his daughters and dogs. He even celebrated his 80th birthday at MetLife Stadium to watch his beloved NY Giants on his birthday weekend, a lifelong dream of his.

He is survived by his two daughters, Jennifer L. Tutlis and Kelly A. Tutlis, both of Baldwinville, and his sister, Constance Nobrega, of Gardner. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Janice Silva, and his brother-in-law, Elvin Hale, along with his nieces and nephews, who meant so much to him.

Chuck was a simple guy who loved just being outside, whether sitting in his chair or being in the mountains. He loved being with his dogs, George, Tüüli, and Täävi in his later life, who brought him so much joy. He was an avid sports lover, especially his New York Giants, Boston Bruins, and college football teams. He loved striking up a casual conversation with everyone and will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, September 8, 2025, from 5 to 7 pm in the Mack Family Funeral Home, Gardner Chapel, 105 Central Street, Gardner.  A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at 10 am in the funeral home with burial to follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Baldwinville.
