ATHOL- Bruce Edward Barrett, Sr. 74, died Saturday, March 19, 2022 at UMass Medical Center in Worcester. He leaves his wife of 50 years. Mary Lou (Carpenter) Barrett, They were married on August 24, 1971; four children, Tawnya Hilts and her husband Joe of Camden, NY, Bruce E. Barrett, Jr and his wife Christy of Athol, Jamie Barrett and his wife Rachel of Athol and Heath Barrett and his wife Linda of Athol; five grandchildren, Joel Wilkey, Sr., Cody Wilkey, Diziree Barrett, Ryan Bailey and Samantha Howard; four great grandchildren, Joel Wilkey, Jr. Remington "Remy" Wilkey, Lexington "Lexi" Wilkey and Joey Wilkey; one brother Brent Barrett and his wife Debbie of Orange; one sister Diane Newton of Orange and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by two grandchildren, Mariah Wilkey and Cory Wilkey; a daughter-in-law Tammy Barrett in 2014; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronald and Judy Barrett, Robert and Joann Barrett and two nephews, Lloyd Newton and Eric Newton. Bruce was born in Orange on March 14, 1948 a son of the late Wallace and Orianna (Ledoux) Barrett. He attended Ralph C. Mahar Regional High School in Orange. He was a self employed carpenter. He belonged to the Carpenters Union and the Railroad Union. He enjoyed woodworking, making furniture. He was a very proud man who provided for his family through his hard work as a carpenter. He loved to go walking with Mary and his grandchildren and family meant the world to him. Bruce will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. At his request funeral arrangements will be private.
