Allen P. Hodgdon

Allen was born on June 5, 1944, in Laconia NH, to the late Clifton J. and Violet (Ladd) Hodgdon. He grew up in Franklin, NH where his parents were lifelong residents.  Allen attended Plymouth State University for his BA and M.Ed  and later attained a CAGS in Educational Administration  from the University of Vermont in Burlington, VT.  He was a teacher, elementary principal, and superintendent of schools.  His love of children was at the center of his work.   

Allen loved to be outside in his backyard planting flowers and enjoying his home.  For over fifty years he was an umpire of softball and baseball continuing his work with students after retiring.  In the winter, he could be found cheering on his beloved UMASS Hockey team.  He was a behind the scenes volunteer in Athol and believed that giving back to the community was his responsibility.  Allen cherished his time in the Coast Guard and was proud to be a veteran.

Allen is predeceased by his parents Clifton and Violet (Ladd) Hodgdon, his daughter in law Holly (Earley) Hodgdon, and his brother James Hodgdon. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Bonnie (Hamilton) Hodgdon, his daughter Dr. Laurie Hodgdon, and his son Jeffrey Hodgdon. He also leaves behind his pride and joy, two grandsons Ian and Breydan Hodgdon. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Allen for a period of visitation on Monday, April 24, 2023, at the Fiske Murphy and Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Rd. Orange, MA, 01364, from 4:00pm until 7:00pm. A funeral will take place on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at the Athol Congregational Church, 1225 Chestnut St, Athol, MA 01331, at 11:00am. A burial will take place at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen St, Winchendon, MA 01475, at 2:00pm with military honors.
