Joan Jillson

ATHOL - Joan (Plunkett) Jillson, 84 of Athol, died Friday, January 4, 2019 in Baystate Medical, Springfield. She was born in Athol, on August 23, 1934, the daughter of the late Walter T. and the late Agnes (Flanagan) Plunkett. Joan grew up in Orange and graduated from Orange High School in 1952. She worked as a nurses aid at Athol Memorial Hospital for several years. She then worked in the cafeteria at Athol High School and went on to work at the L.S. Starrett Co. for a couple of years. More recently she worked at the New Salem General Store. She was a communicant of Our Lady Immaculate Church. She enjoyed reading, having breakfast with friends and trips to Vegas and Foxwoods. Joan always enjoyed a nice glass of wine and loved her dogs immensely. She leaves one daughter, Mary A Gaulin and her husband John of Grafton; four sons, John Jillson and his wife Becky of Athol, Robert L. Jillson and his wife Sue of New Salem, Thomas W. Jillson of North Arlington, NJ and Michael D. Jillson and his wife Maimai of North Dakota; seven grandchildren, Cailin, Callie, Crista, Emily, Erin, and Kadie Jillson and Rose Gaulin. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert H. Jillson who passed 1997. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 11:00 am in Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol. Burial will be at a later date. Calling hours will be held Monday, January 7, 2019 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
