Isabel G Mallet

February 16, 1933 — August 9, 2021

On August 9th, 2021 Heaven gained another angel. Isabel Mallet, best known as “Izzy” to her friends, and “Nana” to her family, has been reunited with her loving husband Joseph (best known as “P-2”) in the life after this one. Born in Osceola, NY on February 16th, 1933 to father Andrew B. Burke and mother Francis Ninabelle Prosser, Isabel was one of ten children. Her children and grandchildren (and great grandchildren!) will always fondly remember her stories of growing up in one of the most rural parts of America. These stories always brought a sense of perspective to how much we truly take for granted sometimes. After high school, Isabel took a job at Griffiss Airforce Base in Rome, NY, where she met her husband Joseph A. Mallet. Together they moved to Athol, Massachusetts where they were married on June 27th, 1959. They went on to have six children together. Most recently Isabel worked for Sodexo food at Sisters of the Assumption, Petersham, MA until retiring sometime around 2010. Prior to that she worked many years for Catholic Charities as a home health aid and personal care assistant. While raising her 6 children she sold Fullerbrush cleaning products, Dutchmaid clothes, Mason Shoes, and Avon and other home sale products. Isabel enjoyed volunteering for many church fairs for Our Lady Immaculate Church. She was an incredible poet, with several published works – with at least one making it into the National Library of Poetry. She was an avid quilter, knitter, gardener, cake baker(boxed, chocolate with vanilla frosting to be exact), crossword and jigsaw puzzler. Isabel enjoyed gathering her family, especially for long summer days by the pool filled with laughter and cheeseburgers. She is best known by her family for her incredible annual performance as “Nana Claus” every Christmas Eve. She was witty (usually without trying to be) and she loved deeply. Isabel is survived by her brothers Danny Burke and Jimmy Burke, as well as her children and their spouses; Aron & Kathleen Mallet, Kathleen Foster, Patricia & Mike Hutchinson, Peter & Trisha Mallet, and Liz & Jim Bergquist all of Athol, MA, along with her many grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her son Daniel J. Mallet and husband Joseph A. Mallet. Isabel, “Izzy”, “Nana” will forever be remembered for her hilarious antics and the loving atmosphere she created that allowed her family to grow and thrive into what it is today. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 10:00 am at Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School Street, Athol.
