Genevieve Dokurno

Gardner - Genevieve Dokurno, 99, of Milford, Connecticut, formerly of Gardner, Massachusetts, passed away at the Skyview Nursing Center in Wallingford, on Saturday, November 18th, 2017. Genevieve was born on December 11th, 1917. She was the daughter of Polish immigrants Henry and Boleslawa (Czajkowski) Karpowicz, who had come to America in 1911. She grew up in Gardner and graduated from Gardner High School. Her extended family there, fellow Polish immigrants, included the Czajkowski, Iwoshevski, and Mierzejewski families. Three weeks after her death, Genevieve would have celebrated her 100th birthday. After World War II, Genevieve married Bronislaw Dokurno, also of Gardner, and moved to Connecticut where "Brownie", as his friends called him, became a valued employee of the Sikorsky Aircraft Company. There he helped build many helicopters, including ones that were used by President John F. Kennedy. Genevieve's beloved husband Bronislaw passed away in 1977. Genevieve was the loving mother of, and is survived by, four sons: Leon, whose wife is Marcia, Bruce, whose wife is Tamara, Neil, whose wife is Marcia, and Mark Dokurno, who gave special loving care to Genevieve in her last years. She had seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Genevieve was pre-deceased by her husband Bronislaw, by a much-beloved infant daughter Mary Elizabeth, and by five siblings: Mary, Joseph, whose wife is Lorraine Karpowicz, Edmund, Wanda, and Mitchell Karpowicz, all of Gardner. While raising her family in Milford, Connecticut, Genevieve was a longtime employee of King's Department Store, and also the Golden Hill Convalescent Home, where she worked later in life, full-time, until the age of seventy-five. She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Milford, and remained piously devoted to the Catholic faith throughout her long life. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 29th, 2017, at 11:00 AM, at Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Gardner.
