Edward J. Glotch

GARDNER - Edward J. Glotch, 69, of Gardner, died Thursday, February 8, 2018 in the UMass Memorial Medical Center - Memorial Campus, Worcester. He was born in Methuen on July 21, 1948, the son of the late Edward J. and the late Elizabeth (McCarthy) Glotch. He grew up in Methuen and graduated from Lawrence Central Catholic High School.  He received his degree in History from Merrimack College. Edward worked in banking for many years. He began working for Guaranty Bank & Trust, went on to work for Bank of New England and Fleet Bank, and he retired in 2006 from Flagship Bank & Trust where he was Vice President of Commercial Lending and the Leominster Branch Manager.   Away from work, he was a member of Holy Spirit Church, a volunteer for the Special Olympics, and was active in the Big Brother organization. He also served for many years on the board of directors of the Gardner VNA.   A star baseball pitcher in high school, he was voted to the Boston Globe Allstar team.  His love for baseball brought him to coach senior league and Babe Ruth league baseball for many years. He loved spending time at the ocean and listening to music, especially Celtic music and the socially conscious folk music of the 1960’s. He leaves his wife of 45 years, Mary (Walsh) Glotch; a daughter, Elizabeth C. Glotch of Brooklyn, NY; a son, Timothy D. Glotch and his wife Deanne of Stony Brook, NY; a sister, Lucy Nickerson and her husband Stephen of Osterville, MA; two grandchildren, Charlotte Glotch, Cameron Glotch and several nieces and nephews.   A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 11:00 am in Holy Spirit Church, 50 Lovewell St., Gardner.  Burial will be private.  Calling hours will be held Wednesday, February 14, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to MSPCA at Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844 or online, via www.mspca.org/nevinsgift.
