Dorothy F. (King) Mallet

ATHOL – Dorothy F. (King) Mallet, 89, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2017 in Quabbin Valley Healthcare, Athol. Dot was born in Athol on July 16, 1927 to the late Everett and the late Fannie (Rice) King. She grew up in Athol and graduated from Athol High School with the class of 1945. She was employed by the Athol School System for over 20 years, before her retirement in 1984. She substituted in Athol School from grades 1-12 before becoming a kindergarten aide in 1973. Previous to that she was a secretary at W. W. Woodward Lumber Co. At the time of John F. Kennedy’s election for President, she was Chairman of the Athol Democratic Ladies Delegation. She represented the Athol Delegation at Harvard, meeting all the Kennedy family. In return, she received many mementos from President Kennedy. She was a communicant of Our Lady Immaculate Church in Athol, and St. Elizabeth Church in Citrus Springs, FL. She was Past President and Secretary of the Ellinwood C.C. Ladies Association for several years, and the Secretary for the Holy Family League of Charity in the Athol Diocese. She and her husband Leo lived 6 months in Athol and 6 months in Dunnellon, FL for many years. They also enjoyed playing various golf courses across the country. One of her proudest achievements was to score 6 hole-in-ones in her lifetime of golfing. She won the Second Division Championship twice and Handicap Championships several times. She and her husband Leo were seen on the golf course at Ellinwood Country Club almost daily. She loved her arts and crafts, especially mesh needlepoint, which she made 3 of everything for her family. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She leaves her two children: Patricia K. Kaczmarczyk and her husband Anthony of Athol; Robert Mallet and his wife Barbara of Cheshire, MA; four grandchildren: Christie, Eric Mallet and Julie Lech of Cheshire, Kevin Kaczmarczyk and his wife Leslie of Athol, Douglas Kaczmarczyk and his wife Kelly of Athol; four great grandchildren: Tyler & Madison Kaczmarczyk and Nathaniel and Brianna Mallet; one brother: Leonard King of Athol; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years: Leo E. Mallet who passed in 2000; four siblings: Leola King, Donald King, Rodney King and Roger King. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, June 8, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol. Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery. A calling hour will be held Thursday from 9:30-10:30 am in the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Rd., Orange. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dot’s memory may be made to Quabbin Valley Healthcare, 821 Daniel Shays Highway, Athol, MA 01331.
