Donald J Cormier

GARDNER- Donald J. Cormier, 93, of Gardner, died Tuesday September 4, after an illness. Mr. Cormier was born March 12, 1925, in Gardner, son of the late Dosithe and Emma (Melanson) Cormier. He attended Gardner schools. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of WWII serving as a Radioman on the USS Barnegat. He earned the WWII Victory Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Medal, and the American Theater Medal. He was a member of the Gardner VFW, the Lions Club, the AARP, and the PACC in Gardner. Mr. Cormier was a member and lector at Sacred Heart Church. He enjoyed traveling, especially to England, Alaska, Scotland, and Florida. He loved the ocean, golfing with his son and son in law, playing folk songs on his guitar, and yodeling. For over 60 years, he was the totally devoted husband of Sally (Glinski) Cormier, who died in 2011 and was also predeceased by several of Sally's siblings, whom he was very close to. Donald is predeceased by his parents Dosithe and Emma Cormier, and his siblings Ernest, Raymond, Victor, and Sylvia. He leaves four children, Stephanie Lecuyer and her husband, Michael of Lady Lake, FL, Nancy Severino of St. Petersburg, FL, Michelle Cormier of Gardner, and Jeff Cormier and his wife, Julie of Grafton; four grandchildren, Eric Lecuyer, Michelle Lewis, Chad Severino, and Corey Severino; three great grandchildren, Lauren and Gordon Lewis, and Nicole Skovira; three great great grandchildren, Beckham, Silas, and Christopher; one sister in law, Sophie Connelly of CT; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. The funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, September 12, at 10:00 A.M. at Holy Spirit Church, 70 Lovewell St., Gardner. Burial with military honors will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday, September 11, from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Mack Family Funeral Homes, Lamoureux-Smith and Poliks Chapel, Kevin Mack Director, 105 Central St., Gardner. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Montachusett Veterans Outreach Center, 268 Central St., Gardner, MA 01440.
