December 24, 1933 - October 27, 2020
GARDNER- Charlotte L. (Nosek) Smart, 86, died Tuesday, October 27, at Wachusett Manor. Charlotte was born December 24, 1933, to Adolph Nosek and Elizabeth Shields. She grew up in Royalston and graduated from Templeton High School in 1951. Charlotte met her husband, Franklin Smart from Milo, Maine, while he was serving in the Army, at a USO dance at Fort Devens. They married November 12, 1955, in East Templeton and moved to Alaska where Franklin was stationed. They moved around to many Army bases from Alaska to Germany and then several other locations throughout the US. After Franklin retired in 1972, they settled in East Templeton and remained in the area. They spent summers at their camp at the Templeton Fish & Game Club and in later years, they spent the winter months in Florida. Charlotte worked many jobs and helped manage Old Colony gas facilities with Franklin and also started "The Drive Through" convenience era at Speedway in Gardner which is now the way of life. Charlotte retired from S. Bent Furniture as a furniture decorator. Charlotte enjoyed her free time with the grandchildren. She loved to babysit them and her all time favorite was to take them fishing. She also enjoyed taking trips to the casino especially since her winnings offset Franklin’s results. She was also known for throwing a jab in here and there to make those around her laugh and her family will miss her famous blueberry cake! She was a proud lifetime member of the Templeton Fish & Game Club. She spent the past few years living at Heywood Wakefield Commons and enjoyed the socialization and fun atmosphere. It was the icing on her cake after many years of hard work. Charlotte leaves her sons, Daniel and his wife, Sandra of Sherman, Texas and David and his wife, Judy of East Templeton; her sister, Marlene Manca of Templeton; her brother, Adolph Nosek, her grandchildren, Scott, Timothy, Katrina, Kristen, Danielle and Rebecca; 11 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.
