Sylvia H. Kulvete

May 24, 1929 — October 15, 2016

Sylvia H. Kulvete, formerly of Gardner, was called by God and died peacefully at the age of 87. Sylvia was born in The Bronx, NY in 1929; she was the daughter of the late Hilma and John Carlson. She was a graduate of Gardner High School. After high school, she worked as a clerk in the Gardner City Hall where she met her future husband, Peter Kulvete, while he was delivering mail to the City Hall. She was first attracted to his beautiful blue eyes and it was love at first sight. They were wed in 1955, had their reception at The Old Mill and honeymooned in Florida. They had two children, Debra and David and were married for 55 wonderful years. During her years in Gardner, she devoted her life to raising her two children and was a very loving and caring mother. Sylvia was actively involved in both the Girl Scouts and the Boy Scouts. Sylvia was very creative and artistic and her hobbies included wreath making, arranging flowers and oil painting. She also enjoyed family and friend gatherings at Camp Jubilee, a cottage on Snake Pond in Gardner built by her husband Peter. Some of Sylvia's favorite foods were Swedish meatballs and Finnish coffee bread which were served at her annual family Christmas Eve dinners which she hosted. Sylvia and Peter retired in 1979 and were blessed with 35 years of sunny living in Florida and many summers at Camp Jubilee. While in Florida, some of Sylvia's favorite activities included swimming, biking, playing Scrabble and working on crossword puzzles as well as volunteering in elementary schools and hospitals. During her summers in Gardner, she volunteered at Henry Heywood Memorial Hospital. At Camp Jubiliee she played jarts and Bocce ball, sailed, swam and made the traditional 3 o'clock coffee. In 2014 she moved back to Gardner. Sylvia will be best remembered for her sense of humor, thoughtfulness, caring nature, generosity and love of her children and grandchildren. Sylvia is predeceased by her husband and she will be greatly missed by her daughter, Debra Villavisanis of Wesley Chapel, FL and her son, David Kulvete of Townsend, MA, her sister Helen Carlson of Gardner, her three grandsons, Samuel, Weston and Dillan and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are planning to honor and celebrate Sylvia's life by gathering for a memorial service at Lamoureux Fletcher and Smith Funeral Home, 105 Central Street, Gardner, on Saturday, October 22 at 10 AM.
