Sandra J. Shatos

August 4, 1943 — June 9, 2018

ROYALSTON, MA - Sandra Jean (Francis) Shatos, a retired Registered Nurse of Athol Memorial Hospital and Baldwinville Nursing Home, passed away with family by her side on June 9. Sandra was 74. Mrs. Shatos was born August 4, 1943 in North Adams, MA the oldest daughter of John Francis and Florence (Dolly) Elizabeth Pessalano, graduated high school in 1961 from Drury High then attended nursing school in Boston, MA. She met Ralph Joseph Shatos (May 24, 1940-November 30, 2010) while at nursing school, married February 13, 1965, then moved to Royalston a few years later to raise a family. Sandra was a devoted wife and mother to her three children teaching them many of her family traditions of baking, sewing and needlepoint. She entertained the kids by sharing her love of music, putting together puzzles of all kinds, board games and reading. There was always a venture to various swimming and skiing locations throughout New England. Shopping, gift giving and finding short cuts and long cuts to country stores along her travels were just some of her hobbies. Working on her boulder and flower gardens became her ultimate passion when she retired. “Gramma Ralphie” adored her grandchildren, spoiling them with much of her time and accompanying them on many family vacations. By far their biggest fan at sporting events, dance and gymnastic competitions and academic events, she was always in the stands enthusiastically cheering for them. Her unlimited amount of energy and inability to be idle proved to be an equal match for all seven. She leaves her daughter Jacqueline Michelle Shatos Carroll with husband Donald P. Carroll Jr. and grandchildren, Kyle Paul Joseph (16), Meg (Maggie) Elizabeth (13), Abigail Ann (11); her daughter Marnie Jean Shatos Farrell with husband Michael C. Farrell and grandchildren Molly Elizabeth (19), Maddison Rose (17), Matthew Joseph (15) and Mallory Elizabeth (11) - both of Marlborough, MA; her sisters Barbara Catrambone of Ballston Spa, NY and Linda Moran of Clarksburg, MA; a nephew Chris Catrambone of NY and two nieces Kiimberly Goodell and Jennifer Moran of Clarksburg, MA. She is predeceased by her oldest daughter Meg Elizabeth Shatos (October 3, 1965 – December 18, 2000) and her husband Ralph.
