Ida L. Hayden

ATHOL - Ida L’Heureux Hayden died September 25th in Henry Haywood Hospital in Gardner after a long illness. She was born April 28th 1921 in Berlin New Hampshire. She was one of eight children. Her parents were John L’Heureux and Josephine Michaud L’Heureux. She graduated from St. Regis Academy, Berlin, New Hampshire in 1938. She married Richard Hayden on August 9, 1943. They had four children, Paul, John, Richard and Peter. She has five grandchildren and one great grandchild. Ida was a member of Our Lady Immaculate Church, the former Catholic Women’s League, and the Lady’s of St. Anne. She worked at the L.S. Starrett Company for 22 years and travelled extensively in her retirement. In addition to visiting many states, national parks, and other countries, she loved cooking for her brothers, sister, children, grandchildren and many good friends. She was a great fan of the Red Sox from the early days of Ted Williams to the present day. She was always delighted to get a Red Sox schedule. She was also known to gamble a little at Foxwoods or in Las Vegas. She also enjoyed doing various types of word puzzles. Even in her final weeks the day was not complete unless she had finished her Wonderword puzzle. Ida had a love of Christmas. Every year both the inside and the outside of the house was flowing with all kinds of decorations. As a final touch, she couldn’t resist giving a present to virtually everyone she knew. Mrs. Hayden was predeceased in death by her son Paul, her husband Richard, and her brothers Leo, Eri, Asa, Guy, Luc and Noel. Ida is survived by her son John and his wife Amy of Bettendorf, Iowa, and her son Peter and his wife Loretta of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and a son Richard of Athol. She is also survived by grandchildren, Eric and his wife Bettina, Patrick and his wife Catherine, and Paul and his wife Denise. Also, grandchildren Alyssa and Sean. She also has one great grandchild Ella. In addition, she is survived by her sister Ina Maga. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, September 30, 2016 at 10:30 AM at Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School Street, with Fr. Edwin Montana officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
