Gordon Christopher Thurlow

Hubbardston- G Christopher Thurlow, 73 died peacefully at home on October 17, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jaye Nutting Thurlow; son, William Thurlow and his fiancee’ Holly Clark of Barre, MA; daughter, Jennifer Thurlow Margolis and her husband Brad of San Carlos, CA; son, Andrew Thurlow and his wife Maia of Oakland, CA.; brother, Matthew Thurlow of Texas; sister, Patrice of Florida; nephew, Jon Foster and his wife Jamie of Leverett, MA; niece, Della Foster Mead of North Wales, PA; sister-in laws, Anna Foster of Leverett, MA and Grace Nutting Mahn of Cody, WY; grandson, Max Margolis; granddaughter, Henni Thurlow and grandnieces, Maggie and Katy Mead. Chris was born August 29, 1944 in Amesbury, MA. He graduated from Beverly High School in 1962. Following high school, Chris joined the United States Air Force in 1965 where he served as a Radar Technician in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine. After his service he attended the Stockbridge School of Agriculture and the University of Massachusetts, graduating in 1972 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Wildlife Management. In 1974 Chris was hired by the Division of Fisheries and Wildlife and by 1979 was promoted to District Manager for the Central Massachusetts District. During this time he also served as a Deputy with the Massachusetts Environmental Police, finally retiring in 2003. During his time with DFW Chris was responsible for the Quabbin Eagle Project, as well as the re-introduction of the wild turkey to Massachusetts.In 1998 Christ bought the second love of his life, the Wind Dancer, a 27 foot Ericson Sailboat. For decades Chris and Jaye sailed through the waters of coastal Maine. It was during these years that Chris made lifelong friendships and had many adventures, including sailing as far south as Norfolk, Va. Chris had a passion for the outdoors. Hunting with family and friends was one of his favorite things to do, whether he was in New Brunswick or behind his house, just being in the woods made him happy. Chris was also a part time Police Officer with the town of Hubbardston. His dedication and love of the ocean prompted him to obtain his 100 ton U.S.C.G Captains License, and he was also a member of the Barre Sportsman’s Club, as well as a member of the Yellow Birch Society. Calling Hours will be held Friday, October 27, 2017 from 10-11AM in the Lamoureux-Smith & Poliks Funeral Home, 105 Central St. Gardner. A Funeral Service will follow at 11AM in the funeral Home.
