GARDNER - Arline L. (Holden) Buckley, 81 of 325 Park St., Gardner, died Friday, March 3, 2017 in the UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus, Worcester. She was born in Gardner, on January 12, 1936, the daughter of the late Edward and the late Marion (Lachance) Holden. Arline grew up in Gardner and was educated in Gardner. She worked as a waitress for The Old Mill for 18 years as well as for the William Austin Tavern in Westminster, The Paxton Inn in Paxton, Paul & Eddies in Athol and Wendy’s in Gardner. Arline was a farmer girl at heart and had an undeniable love for animals of all kind. Over the years she enjoyed raising horses and watching her husband Paul race at the Hinsdale race track. She spent many years as a dog breeder and participated in many dog shows all over New England. In later years she began breeding and showing Angora rabbits adding to her brood of dogs, cats, birds and chickens. The joy her animals brought to her was unmistakable. She leaves her husband of 48 years, Paul F. Buckley; two daughters, Michelle Troiano and her husband Nick of Gardner; Charlene Slattery and her husband Pat of New York, one son, Raymond Coe of Florida; her daughter in-law Candace Coe of Baldwinville; step children, Kim Hansen and her husband Chris of Mississippi, Karen Grant and her husband Jon of Orange, Paul Buckley of Athol, Janet Richardson and her husband John of Athol, grandchildren, Kacie LaRoche of Boston, Joshua Babineau and his companion Kasara of Gardner, Andy Slattery of Oklahoma, Bryan Coe, Jr. and his fiance Bridgette of New Hampshire, Tim Coe and his wife Nicole of Baldwinville, Jennifer Coe and her Fiance Eric of Winchendon, step grandchildren, Jenny Gabrenas of Chutesbury, Kathleen Weatherby of Gardner, Christine Weatherby of Orange, Aaron Messenger of New Hampshire, Ben Messenger of New Jersey, Julie Messenger of New Hampshire, Michael Cavanna of New Hampshire, Emma Richardson of Athol and Margaret Richardson of Athol; 19 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; and her beloved, pets Rufus, Cricket, Maxwell and Skeezix. She was predeceased by her son Bryan Coe, by one sister, Janet Boucher and by two brothers, Robert Holden and Edward Holden. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 10, 2017 at 11:00 am in the Lamoureux-Fletcher & Smith Funeral Home, 105 Central St., Gardner. Burial will be private at a later date. . A calling hour will be held Friday, March 10, 2017 from 10 - 11 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to Gardner Animal Shelter, 95 Pleasant St., Room 29, Gardner, MA 01440.
