Annie R. LePoer

June 22, 1924 — November 30, 2016

PETERSHAM – Annie R. (Mitchell) LePoer, 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, after an illness. Annie was born in Petersham on June 22, 1924, the daughter of the late Benjamin and the late Marguerite (Fernette) Mitchell. She grew up in Petersham, attending the Petersham Center School (where she met her husband Bernard in the 1st grade) and graduated from Petersham High School. Annie worked for many years as a cook at the Petersham Center School. She also worked at the L.S. Starrett Company and as an administrative assistant at the Petersham Center School and Maria Assumpta Academy. A lifelong resident of Petersham, Annie was an active member of the community. She was a member of the Unitarian Church, took classes at the Petersham Craft Center and her plants were always a favorite at the country fair on the common. Annie found joy in whatever she was doing. She loved people and was often the last to leave a party. She stayed active throughout her life, gardening, riding her moped and snowmobile, line dancing, and participating in the Silver Sneakers fitness program at the Athol Area YMCA. She and her sister Evelyn loved to travel and would always return home with many entertaining stories of their adventures. She was a breast cancer survivor and looked forward to walking the Survivors Lap at the Relay For Life each year at Mount Wachusett Community College. She leaves two sons: Scott LePoer and his wife Linda of East Falmouth, MA, Shawn LePoer and his wife Julie of Athol, MA; four grandchildren: Sarah LePoer, Annie LePoer, Gavin LePoer and Emily Mallette; three great grandchildren: Peri Miarecki, Jesse Mallette and Tyler Mallette; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Bernard “Shaw” LePoer; daughter Kathy Ballou; two brothers: Lloyd Mitchell and Gordon Mitchell; and one sister Evelyn (Mitchell) Miller. A celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to Relay For Life of Gardner, c/o American Cancer Society, 59 Bobala Rd., Holyoke, MA 01040.
